Welcome Erin Morgan, my friend & House of Color Style & Color Consultant. She generously shares about how God is at work in her beautiful body.
“I’ve often felt disconnected from my body, ashamed of it, frustrated with it, and at times proud of it. Maybe you can identify with the myriad feelings I have about my body, which can change from day to day, moment to moment.
We are told in Scripture that outwardly we are wasting away, that we will return to dust; but we also have a sweet promise of the glorious bodies we will inherit in the age to come. Praise God!
But in the here and now, what do we believe about ourselves? Two scriptures are reminding me right now about God’s power that is at work in my body.
Romans 8:11 tells me, that “if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.” Further, in Ephesians 1:18-20, we are told that the working of God’s mighty strength to raise Jesus from the dead is the same incomparably great power available to us, through His Spirit.
Now, let me bring this down to a practical level. Raise your hand if you love to exercise. Raise your hand if you love to clean your house. What about driving the endless cycle of carpool mixed in with errands?️Let me just say that I don’t look forward to any of these and would rather stay curled up on the coach with a book! However, God has given me a home, a family, and yes, a body to steward. It is good work that brings Him glory in a world that desperately needs it.
When I find myself annoyed with, ashamed by, or simply not thinking about my body, God’s Word reminds me that it is a powerful gift strengthened and energized by His Spirit to do the good works He has ordained for me (Eph. 2:10). Why does He tell us this?
Because we are made in His image, to bring His hope to the world. May our lights shine brightly for Him all the days we inhabit these bodies, made strong by His power at work in us.
